Can you use clear Western Red Cedar for flooring?

I love the look--actually if I could make my floors look like a cedar strip canoe I would! Anyone have any cedar floors? I believe they are a softwood so I'm wondering how they hold up to kids/pets/etc...thoughts? How about cost?

cedar is very soft, it will ding and dent very easily. A cedar stripper is wood canoe covered with a fiberglass or epoxy cloth/resin layer inside and out. The laminated material is very strong and the thick epoxy layer makes a hard surface. I think you'd be better off with something harder for yor floors.

Way too soft. Walking on it with hard shoes would probably dent it. Forget about high heels. Plus, it splits really easily.
