Need Pre-finished Wood Floor Recommendation

Hi there. I usually post on the Kitchen Forum but thought I would stop by here for a quickie ;)

We are (hopefully one day) going to remodel the kitchen/dining room of our 1962 house. I want to put in prefinished wood floors (solid). I see that most people on this forum hate on Bellawood/Lumber Liquidators. We did install two exotics from LL in a previous house and were satisfied with the results. Last house we installed a sand and finish floor from a local mill with a Street Shoe finish and also loved it.

For this remodel, we will be so on a budget and will have about 700 sf of floor to install. We are def. going with prefinished for a variety of reasons.

Basically, can anyone recommend a well priced floor or floor source, good quality, that falls in the $4-6/sq ft range?

Here are our stats:

--We are over a crawl space.
--We live in humid central Florida.
--I am open to a stained finish although prefer natural.
--I want a domestic floor.
--Prefer a wider plank (4-5" to cut down on the amount of grooves).

Ideally I would love an American Walnut floor because we prefer a darker color and I read that it is a very stable wood. I am considering Ash, also because of its stability, except DH is not a fan of how it looks.

So...suggestions?

Wow...does everyone on here hate pre-finished so much that there are no suggestions?

No one brand makes all their own wood and it comes in many different 'types'. Engineered can be individual planks, longstrip, rotary peeled, sliced veneer etc etc. Asking for a 'brand' is like saying GM is good but that includes the Aveo up to a Cadillac. You need to narrow your focus and find a brand and specific style and maybe someone will comment. The reality is most wood is imported from a variety of sources so one 'brand' is not going to be a guarante of your happiness.

Wow...I wasn't looking for a "brand" (didn't even use that word!) but a "source." But thank you for allowing me to clarify: we want solid flooring.

No worries. Thank you, Boxers, for your response. I guess we will just stick with LL since our experience with them has been positive.

You really need to talk to a knowledgeable professional. American walnut is beautiful but VERY soft, not my choice for a kitchen. All crawl spaces are problematic for solid wood flooring. Does the crawl space have adequate ventilation? Does water collect under the house? A good sliced engineered product would be the safer bet.
