Cat Pee and the Carpet

| My cat of 16 years recently passed away. For about the past 6 years she has peed on the carpet. I smelled it a couple times but didn't realize it was everywhre until I bought a black light. I'd like to get another cat at some point. Should I put in new carpeting before getting another cat? I don't want a new cat to pee everywhere in an attempt or mark territory or is that just dogs? |

| no your exactly right. the new cat will smell the old cat. You may have to treat the subfloor as well. |

| I agree with 'boxers', you should rip out the old carpet and paint the subfloor with a stain-blocking primer before installing new carpet. Cat pee is so penetrating, very hard to eliminate. |

I found a product at the pet store called (I think) Natures Miracle" in a white bottle with red lid. It actually worked well getting puppy pee out of my carpet. I tried everything and that was the only thing that worked. It wasn't cheap and you can't even cut it with water- but give it a shot. It's a drench, easy. |
