Kitchen floors in a home not inhabited all times

We have a home in a mountain, we do not live there , when not in use heating is to a minimum to avoid frozen pipes ( north east ). The kitchen needs some updating. wanted to do ceramic tiles in the kitchen area and do backsplash in small glass tiles. Have been told it is not a good idea due to cold/heat expansion. What are my options short of linoleum?

Wood. Genuine linoleum. Glued down cork. Luxury Vinyl Tile. Ceramic would also be a suitable choice, if installed properly.
