Stain Mixing: Jacobean + either Red Oak or English Chestnut?

Hi,

Does anyone have experience with mixing minwax Jacobean stain with either Red Oak or English Chestnut stains?

Picture shows Jacobian + red oak on top, Jacobean + English Chestnut on the bottom. It's a terrible picture, but basically the red oak stain brings out more red, the english chestnut just brightens up the Jabobean a bit.

Our preference is a dark stain that still hides some dust and isn't too "cold", ie has some warmth.

Flooring is newly installed 2 1/4 red oak hardwood. Will be same color all downstairs, stair treads, and throughout upstairs. Lots of natural light in the house.

I think it depends on how much red hues you want to have. I have the same dilemma. Our builder installed red oak natural floors, but will switch to White oak if I want to stain it. I don't want much red hues, as my wall color is a light gray and baseboard and trim are pure white. I love those cool tones. I like the bottom one, if that helps!!!! Have you looked at Special Walnut? Its a little lighter. i want to stay in the medium stain range, as I know dark is harder to take care of.
