Can I join 3 Carpet runners?

I wanted to know if anyone has ever joined separate runners before. Obviously the runner would have to be one with a random pattern and not bordered on all sides. I was envisioning purchasing some inexpensive (as compared to custom runners) 12 foot runners and joining them into a long 36' runner. I could easily finish the ends but I was wondering about the joints, how bad might this look?

any ideas are appreciated!

Have an installer seam them..depending on a backing that will allow for it....it wont be that bad....

Any advice for DIY? I'm big on that
    thanks
most of the rugs I'm looking at are hand knotted wool rugs probably with a cotton backing. I'm envisioning just cutting (very carefully and cleanly) the surged end off and joining the rugs. I can even hand sew the ends together (I'm capable) I'd have to repair the edge of the surge.
