carpeting wanting to know if I can patch a large area

In a nutshell my husband and I spent 9 months transforming our basement. We took it down to the concrete block and started over again doing 80% of the work. Four months later we had a water leak (our first one ever) and it took out some of our new work. The insurance guy said to pull up all the wet carpet, that was about 1/3 of the room. The room is roughly 30ft x 14ft (long and narrow) so we did. I went to Home Depot where we originally bought the carpet and the guy said they cannot just patch in that carpet they would have to redo the entire room because of warranty issues. I have a couple questions. Can an installer make a seam where we cut it and put new carpeting there? I would assume the carpet that is left would need to be stretched and if so would all the furniture need to be taken out of the room for the carpet to be stretched? It seems to me that this should be doable instead of redoing the whole room.
