6x24 tile pattern

We are currently building a new home and used a 6x24 black/grey honed tile for our entryway and guest powder room. The tile guy did a 1/3 bond, which we expected. However he had some random changes in the pattern (like occasionally "resetting" the pattern -- the grout line still lines up with another, but it might line up with a grout line 3 rows away instead of 2 rows away). The tile meets up with the hardwood in our living room, and is running in the same direction.

The floor hasn't been grouted yet, but it is not a contrasting grout color and has narrow grout lines.

He said with plank type tiles he does a "random 1/3 bond" so it looks more like a wood floor pattern, but this is not a wood look tile. I had been expecting a repeating 1/3 bond.

Just wondering if this is normal or not. I think it is going to look okay finished, but I was a little surprised by it.
