| I thought I wanted a kiva fireplace for my southern Arizona winter home. At 4,500 ft elevation, it does get cold in the winter. The house is smallish (1600 sq ft). My builder says the kiva fireplace is more for looks than heat and for the price (around $4-5K) he thinks I should consider a Zero Clearance Fireplace.
For what it's worth, it will be in a corner.

| If you want an efficient wood heating unit, get a wood stove. If you want something that looks good but has miserable efficiency, get a conventional fireplace. |
