Profile 20 Pellet Stove Problem - Fault Mode

Posted by mjmoore (My Page) on

I own a Whitfield/Lennox Profile 20 Pellet Stove (free-standing).

Lately, it has been going into "fault mode" quite often.
By "fault mode," I mean the stove will shut down and the On/Off light flickers. This occurs after the stove has been operating normally anywhere from 10 minutes to 8 hours.

This happens particularly when the stove is on the low heat setting, but lately it has also happened when the stove is on the medium heat setting.

The stove is clean and well-maintained so I am at a loss.

Any ideas on how to fix/prevent this?

Thanks.

RE: Profile 20 Pellet Stove Problem - Fault Mode

The Profile uses a "photo eye" for recognizing the flame. The photo eye itself is covered protective clear plastic filter. This filter will sometimes get soot and fines on it over time. When it gets dirty, it's like looking through a dirty pair of glasses and the eye can not see there is flame activity and it will go into fault mode.

Cleaning it is very simple. Try this, purchase a can of compressed air(like for cleaning a keyboard). Spray it up the pellet chute 3-5 times to blow the dust and dirt off the eye.

Good Luck
