using pellets in fireplace

I have a wood pellet stove and a fireplace. I've been wrapping crumbling and powdery pellets into newpapers and burning them in my fireplace. Each pellet 'log' contains about 3 cups of pellet crud loosely wrapped into one sheet of newspaper. They end up under the grate, burning right on the brick. Is this OK or do pellets burn too hot?

The best thing to get is the bradley burner..It helps to bring air to the pellets so that they burn smoothly and for a long time...Here is the website: www.bradleyburner.com.....and check out this utube video..site...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nekz9NI6B4s.
