cleaning a burnt on material from fireplace glass

Help! Something ( material unknown) burnt onto the outside of the fireplace glass. It is about 6 inches by 2 inches and has the texture of burnt plastic. I suspect it may have been a bag but I still don't know. I tried Goo gone with no luck.

any ideas?

I would try scraping it off with a razor blade.
