Removing log fireplace and installing gas

HandymanExpress

I have a wood burning fireplace right in between two rooms. I want to yank it and install a double sided gas fireplace. My problem is that below it in the basement is another wood burning fireplace which I want to keep. Above it is an attic where the brick continues up to the roof and a brick chimney. How can I do this? I know the chimney and brick in attic are a lot of weight and would have to be either supported or removed. If I remove all brick from main room, attic and chimney, can I somehow continue the flue from the basement up right next to the new gas fireplace and if so, how do I continue from there?
