Regency 3100 wood insert

My Regency 3100 insert just got installed. The installers didn't place insulation behind the trim plate per instructions. I think because the fireplace face is irregular and doesn't allow a flush meeting of the insert trim. Any insulation strips on the backside of the trim would be visible from the 1" gaps.
What they did instead was wrap the sides and top of the insert firebox with insulation. Is this a good idea for the performance of the stove? I see there is a vent hole in one corner of the firebox that has insulation right up to it. I don't know if there are other holes like this.
I want to have some good feedback and knowledge for when I approach the installer.
