replace firebrick on Vermont castings stove?

We have a vermont castings coal stove that we bought in 1989 and have been very satisfied with it. Some of the firebrickis starting to crack and they should be replaced. Customer Service from VC is non-existent. I have the new firebrick. Do I need some sort of special cement or do I just drop them into the slots of the old firebrick?

I would doubt they are cemented in because that would not allow for expansion and contraction. Most I have been around are held in with a piece of metal, either part of an air tube or just a L bracket.
