Hearth Pad advice for Vented Gas Stove

Hi, I'm in NJ and was thinking of putting in a vented gas stove in my kitchen. We have a bumped out alcove so we can place it near an exterior wall and vent out through the roof. I have porcelain tile floors but the dealer said I need to add a hearth pad with the appropriate R factor. I was wondering, does anyone know if you can use a natural stone, like a Karney stone as a hearth pad? I like the look of the Karney stones used for exterior garden steps (about 8 - 10 inches thick) - it gives you more rustic look. Also, my porcelain tile floor is multicolored and the hearth pads I've seen seem like they would clash. I've posted a link to a website that has Karney stones so you get an idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks!
