| I have been looking for a fireplace insert. At this point, have narrowed search to three models, Buck 91, Lopi Freedom bay and the Clydesdale. Wife likes the aesthetics of the Clydesdale. Performance specs, Btu output, efficiency, emmissions, burn duration and installed cost are fairly similar with a few exceptions. Primary differences were firebox size, cat vs non-cat and negative press on prior version of the clydesdale. I read several negative postings on an earlier model Clydesdale (8490 - appears as though this was discontinued late '08). most complaints seemed to be weak fan, low heat output and burn tube failure - all serious enough to shy away from.
Would appreciate feedback on new vs older model clydesdale in addition to comparrisons of all three we are considering.

| I purchased/installed Clydedale about 1 month ago and am quite happy with it. Heat output is quite good. Fan is automatic on/off and quiet when on low. One thing to note, the small grate on top does not get hot enough to boil water in a steamer pot. |
