help with a Heatilator

Can anyone give me some advice concerning a Heatilator wood burning fireplace? It was installed in my living room when we added on to the house by our contractor. It smokes up the house - and the firebox is not sealed against the blower outlet on top of the firebox. I complained to the factory and after their rep looked at it they changed it out with a new one. The new one performs exactly the same. They told me that the room was not "ideal" as it had cathedral ceilings and the fireplace was on an outside wall.

Now I am gun-shy about trying anything. This Heatilator EC42 is a "tinny" stove that I think is cheap junk. How do I tell if it's the stove or a flue draft problem?

I was looking at the country flame inglenook as a replacement, but for $3K I would like to be more confident that it will work.

Anyone with a similar problem/solution?

Thanks
