Outside air intake for Quadra Fire 2700i

Hello,

I am thinking about installing an outside air kit on my quadra fire 2700i insert. I see that this basically involves taking off a side plate and installing an adaptor to which you connect a metal pipe to the outside. BUT my question is don't I have to seal off the current air intakes? The directions don't say anything about that. How/Where is the air coming into the fireplace when the outside inake is not installed?
