My neighbor gave me some split oak logs this spring. They've been sitting on a porch since then out of direct sun but also also of rain. The logs are 3 inches in diameter at most. Do you think they are ready for the fireplace?

Oak takes longer to dry than any other wood I can think of - 2 years minimum even when split.

it depends on WHERE you are. around here split oak will cure in a year, other areas 2 yrs or so. outdoor temps have a lot to do it, as does airflow.
