I am starting to build a new home. We are in East Tn and the home site does not have natural gas. I am looking at installing an electic heat pump. Our living room is in a central location on our 2000 sq ft main level where the fireplace would be located. Would I save money by purchasing a larger lp direct vent fireplace and use it as supplemental heat to the electric heat pump? Or should I just by a small unit to get the look and spend the money elsewhere? I can get a small lower end unit that still looks nice for around 2500. But a large high output unit is pushing 4k - 5k.
