flu sizing a fireplace insert

I have inherited a vermont castings fire place insert with an eight inch flu. i believe my flu size is 6", as i was going to have an avalon installed and the invoice has a charge for 25' of 6" SS liner. Can I step the stove down to the size of the liner? or am i going to have to find a stove w/ a six inch flu?

Yes you can downsize. The piece is made by vermont castings, and should be available at any wood burning supply store. It will run you at least 40 dollars, but that's cheaper than a new stove. We installed a rigid stainless steel liner and are very pleased with the result, a much cleaner chimney at the end of the season.
