wood burning fireplace inserts

We just started our search for a good wood burning insert, but haven't found a definitive rating source that ranks the many brands and models. Everyone says they are the best, and there are dozens to pick from. This week we priced a Regency "Hearth Heater," Model H2100, here in Albuquerque. ( We chose this for the cooking surface, which would be helpful in an emergency.) With faceplate and 2-speed blower, it was $2207, with a "limited lifetime warranty." The stainless steel vent kit adds another $300, and the contractor the store uses for installation, quoted us $685 to deliver it and put it in. So far, that's $3192, plus tax, for a total of $3415.44! The unit seemed well-made, and had the highest efficiency of any model we have seen, but this still seems pretty pricey for what you get. The installer's business card doesn't say if he is "FTI" certified. Is that a big deal? Any comments from people who have bought from Regency? THX
