| Our 1910 house has a wood burning fireplace and ash pit (ill-fitting cover at least). It also has a finished basement with no apparent access to the ash pit clean-out. My worry is that a fire above could get some hot embers down into the now flammable ceiling of the basement.
Any suggestions on how I could completely decommission the ash pit? Cement it in or otherwise? Thanks! |
