Newly cut tree/firewood

Adam F

Hi all - we recently had to take down two trees that had some root damage when we were building. We were hopeful that they'd make it, but alas. In some recent storms, they showed that some huge branches weren't healthy, and our arborist recommended taking them down.

What we have now is about three cords of freshly cut wood...

About half is cut into firewood, and the other half is sections of the trunk, un-split, and about 30" across...

My questions are:

1. How do I appropriately store this wood?

2. Do I need to wait before burning it? (Does it need time to season/dry).

3. For the unsplit pieces - is there any harm to leaving them out unsplit until they dry? I have plenty of room for them.

I think that's it - any wisdom for a new homeowner is appreciated!

Adam
