| looking at options available to fill an existing fireplace at cottage...
currently have a wood burning insert and want the convenience of either propane or electric... the room is 16x12 and the smallest propane flush mounts generate 20,000BTu which i think would be overkill... never considered an electric fireplace until it was suggested.... so i would like to get people's opinion why they either went this route or why they declined this option... as well, what are the top manufactures... thanks in advance... windr |

| Propane has the advantage that it can be used when there is a power failure. But I understand your concern about getting an insert that produces too much heat. Shop around some more -- you might find one that throws out less heat. Make sure you get one with Direct Vent tachnology. Do not get a ventless system. They are dangerous and against code in many places. |
