I have a ventless fireplace with an ugly log set. I would like to convert it to just be flame with glass. Preferably I could start this with a wall switch or remote.

It seems like the glass part is not hard. I remove the logs, buy a new burner (probably a 12x18 u shaped burner), put down sand, attach burner, put glass rock over the burner. I would need to turn the valve (on side of fireplace wall) on and light with a matchstick.

Is there anything else I need to do?

Is there a way to convert this setup to use a wall switch or remote? I plan on doing a built in next to the fireplace and accessing the valve every time to turn it on will be a hassle.
