We have a masonry fireplace with gas logs. We have lived here 14 years and probably used the gas logs five times. I want to remove the gas logs and start using wood--probably not that often either. I know wood burning is inefficient--but we will still only burn half a dozen times during a season. From what I have read, we can change the gas line to a gas log starter. Is this a DIY project? Local fireplace store sells them for 50 bucks.
