Given how old it is, it probably isn't certified, so you'll probably have a hard time getting rid of it, especially if you are in a region that now has very strict laws regarding wood heat. Since inserts aren't freestanding (like a wood stove), they're more of a pain to remove and then reinstall some place else...you could check your local CL and see if used inserts are even being sold in your area, and if so for how much. If you *are* able to sell it, of course you'd be more likely to do so now rather than heading into summer.

Thanks gladys1924, everything you said makes sense. What little I've found has resold in the $600 - $1000 price range with everything included, but neither of those have been in my region. I may just put it out there to see if theres any interest, otherwise we may just keep it tucked away (as best one can 'tuck away' a wood stove) and see if theres any use for it in the future. It's a nice insert so hate to dump it.

$600 for a *used* insert? Wow. The installer for our new insert just hauled the old one away for us - couldn't get rid of it any other way. Of course, we had a totally different insert, but still...good luck..

Around here in VT used stoves and inserts are put at the end of the driveway with "free" on it because the owner got a new stove.

They're usually picked up by someone who will put it in their garage or workshop.
