Wood burning stove leaking

Frills4U

Looking for advice on this one. I live in a rented property with a small wood-burning stove which leaks a really smelly liquid, coming from the back of the stove and underneath one side of the actual fire surround. It makes our living room stink of a heavy oily sort of smell. We questioned our landlord who had the person who fitted the stove check it. He reported that we were burning wood that was too wet, therefore our problem. I'm not convinced as it seems to happen after it has rained heavily. We put up with this for the whole of last winter but I'm not willing to do it for another. Grateful for any comments, thanks
