| I looked back at old post, but wanted to know if anything had change with respect to the safety or odor issues with the ventless fireplaces.
We are a new construction build with a $1500 allowance for a ventless fireplace. After reading the old posts, I am not sure that this is the best option. Should we move to a direct vent? Any idea of how much more it would cost? Thanks, Mel |

| We bought an existing new home four years ago that had a ventless fireplace installed. I never knew such a thing existed. After living with it, I would recommend that you increase your budget and get a direct vent. Safety is not an issue for us as our house if very open and we only have it on for two hours at most and less than a dozen times a year. It does warm the place quickly. The odor is the thing that still bothers us. I have seriously considered having it taken out and install a vented model but this is on an inside wall and there is no attic access overhead in that area. Since you are in the construction phase, forget the ventless. |
