 o
gas fireplace pilot light too hot

We recently had a Mendota DXV-35 gas fireplace installed and we are concerned about the size of the pilot light and the heat generated from it. The pilot light is very visible and large. With just the pilot light on, the outside of the glass is very hot -- you touch it for a second and have to pull away. The installer has come back and looked at it, but said the size of the pilot light and the excessive heat is normal for this Mendota unit.

After he left, I went thru the Installation Manual that was left by the fireplace. On page 5, under the "Rear Venting" section, "Orifice Sizes Requirement", it notes that for a rear vent option (which is the way ours is installed), the rear burner orifice must be changed in the Natural Gas configuration to a "53 spud orifice". There are 4 orifices stapled to the front of our installation manual, and one is a #53. Unless we were given 'spare" orifices, it looks like they did not use the correct one in our installation. Could that be the cause of this problem? If so, we will call them back out and have them change it.

Thanks for any help!
Ron

RE: (Revision) gas fireplace pilot light too hot

Just realized an error in my earlier post. Our fireplace is top vented and not rear vented so the 2nd paragraph of my post no longer applies.

I'd still like help on the first part of my post;i..e, the excessively large and hot pilot light.

Thanks
