Building a wood fire place

Hi all, a friend of mine wants to brick around a slow combustion wood heater using an existing brick wall as the back side and only leaving the door side open. Can she just use normal bricks or will the heat crack them eventually, does she need to line normal brickwork with heat bricks or tiles? Thankyou

What do you mean by "slow combustion wood heater"? Do you mean a woodstove?
