Installing Cultured Stone

I am planning to install Cultured Riverrock Stone behind a propane cast iron stove in my living room.. I have lined the wall with cement board. Is it necessary to attach a wire mesh to the cement board before installing the stone or is the cement board a sufficient backing with out the mesh? I am inclined to think that the cement board is enough. Any comments?

The cement board is an exellent base with no wire mesh necessary. I would recommend using fortified thinset mortar instead of regular mortar - it provides a stronger bond and grabs quicker, although it is a little messier to work with and clean up. BTW, don't buy the premixed thinset, mix it yourself from a bag (okay to buy the bag with fortifier already in it).
