Stacked Stone Fireplace -- Wall Washer Fixture to get shadows?

I wasn't sure exactly where to post this but here goes...

Have a stacked stone veneer fireplace that I'd like to do lighting in the ceiling to cast shadows down the wall which highlight the different depths of the stacked stone. I'm thinking the lighting fixtures should be mounted very close to the stone face to have a chance to cast shadows down the front vs. flood the whole thing in light.

I was wondering if anyone has done this? My first guess to try would be a "wall washer" recessed light trim whereby light comes out of the canned light only on the fireplace side of it and the side facing into the room is blocked by the 1/2 of the trim that is solid so you don't have light shining in your eyes. Has anyone tried this? Or can anyone make suggestions types of fixtures to do this?

Thanks in advance!
