 o
removing fake finish from fireplace

Our fireplace has sheets of UGLY fake white brick covering it. It looks and feels like plastic--some places seem to be easier to press on than others. We have no idea of what's under this stuff and don't know how to remove it. The condo was built in 1985, and hopefully the underneath is brick. Anyone have any suggestions how to remove this facing?
