How many cords to buy

I just got off the phone with a local firewood supplier who is selling wood for $155 per cord. I have a small 1100 log-sided house in northern NJ and was curious how much firewood I should buy. This will be my first winter primarily heating with a new Quadrafire 3100i I had installed about a month ago.

I'm thinking 3 cords is a good start, I am single who doesn't mind the cold as I'm an avid backpacker and camper, who basically set my thermostat to about 55degs last winter and simply wore a sweatshirt for the most part. I plan on primarily heating my small house with the 3100i so I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations on how much wood it would take to keep my house around the mid 50s or so.

3 cords should do the trick. i heated last year with 4 cords, house was in northwest nj, 2700 sqft, wood heat was the primary heat source, it was a mild winter.

becareful who you buy from. ask them how they measure it. what kind of truck they are delivering it in, etc. most suppliers short you.

When I lived in the Poconos I used 3 cords per year. And our home was about the same size as yours. We used our stove as primary heat and only one winter did I think I was gonna run out.

Now that I now live in the country and about 5 hours north, we use about 4 cords.
