 o
bees in fireplace

We moved into this 10-yr. old house last summer. During the winter we had cold air coming through the gas fireplace vents so we put some insulation in the vents and it seemed to help.

Now this summer I'm finding bees in the windows next to the FP. It's only 1 a day so it's not a mass of bees. Opened the vent and took the insulation out and saw a few dead bees in the the pit. Apparently they're coming in from the outside.

My husband wants to bug bomb the firelplace. Is that safe and will it work?

Anyone have any other suggestions on how to remedy this?

I don't see why not. If their is a nest be prepared to close off the fireplace quickly. I've been attacked by hornets & it ain't fun.
Also the flue should be inspected afterwards for blockages. Any nest could be a fairly large obstruction.
A professional cleaning is always a good idea anyway.
