Just moved in and looking for info

I just bought this house and with it came this fireplace mantel. I am not a big fan of it and would like to sell it, however I know nothing about it. I can't tell if it is Slate or Marble or something else... A few people have said they believed it was much older than the house (house was built in '73). If anyone can help me out with any info I would appreciate it.
