steel fireplace surround and acid wash HELP!

Hi! first time to post here. I have looked ALL OVER and can not find any info on steel fireplace surrounds. particularly hot rolled carbon steel surround with an acid was finish. I'm trying to find out a few things about this because we have seen them and would like to do it to our fireplace. Some things I'm wondering about are...

1. thickness of sheet to use (16 gauge? 28 guage?)
2. supplier of sheet steel?
3. what to use to acid wash?

We want to cover our entire firplace, floor to ceiling and that is about 12ft tall so wieght is a concern, but we don't want it to be so thin that it dimples when we weld/rivet/glue it together, ya know?

anybody out there have any suggestions about this?? THANKS!!

Cannot help with info, but I think your fireplace is in my son's home. Good luck in finding the materials you need.

A steel fabricator can help you. Some will charge more, some less.

You can find them in your area in the link below.
