problems with gas fireplace installatin

We've recently moved into our newly renovated cabin. A lot of little things still haven't been completed...including getting the gas fireplace to work right. Before starting construction, we'd seen quadra-fire gas fireplaces and had tenatively decided on that brand. Our builder suggested Heatilator and we gave our OK. The fireplace has been installed and LOOKS gorgeous but it puts out virtually NO heat. It's the smallest gas fireplace they make (I think) but then it only has to heat 650 square feet. When we had some chilly weather, it didn't make any heat and we were using space heaters.

Do they make fireplaces that don't heat....or any suggestions on what the problem might be. We can get a flame but no heat. This is the first heatilator fireplace that our builder had installed and he's tearing his hair out! I think he's sick of messing with it. Appreciate any suggestions!

Heatilator makes all types of fireplaces. If you have a novus series, its there decrative line. The caliber and caliberNXT are there heater rated and heater listed series. The novus doesnt put out much heat. Quadrafire is a sister company of heatilator, they are considered more custom and also have higher outputs then some of the heatilator series.
