Outdoor fireplace

We are in the process of working with our contractor on a outdoor fireplace for south Texas. WE are considering natural gas and the goal of the fireplace is purely for 'the look' rather than functionality, so high BTU's are not important.

So, my question, do we really need to go high end, or can we use a builder grade firebox?

What would you recommend. I found a Napoleon GSS42 for $1600 which is a pretty good price?? Also liked the clean look of the Alpine vent-free system.

Any comments or suggestions will be most welcomed!

adi, movin, I'm looking for info on trying to build an outdoor fireplace from concrete block and scrap granite countertop stone.

What do you mean the patio forum? I've looked all over and can't find any patio forum.

Can you direct me to the right area for ideas and advice?
