Hello. We're doing a corner woodburning, stacked stone with prominent sitt-able hearth. We're wanting a "finished hewn log" looking mantle, which we think the builder may end up doing for us. Undoubtedly he will ask us for size, and I'm not sure what to tell him. Length will be (I dunno exactly) between six & 7 feet long, or so.

Question is:

How thick should it be? (what you see from front)

How deep should it be? (top, where you set stuff)

Anyone want to chime in with size opinions would be appreciated, thanks!
