My gas valve leaks through the key hole, but only when the gas is turned on. Is their a way to repair the valve without removing the mantel, tile, etc?

Remove the bezel that covers the hole in the wall by turning the beze counter clockwise, which unthreads it from the gas valve. Once it's removed, use a flashlight to examine the valve. Often the wall shutoff valves have a packing nut on the front of the valve that works loose and causes a leak. You can use a spray bottle of water and a lot of dishwashing detergent to diclose the leak. Tighten the packing nut clockwise a bit until the leak stops.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.
