| We are remodeling a house that had a mexican tile floor through the entire downstairs and on the hearth of the family room fireplace. We have put in new white oak floors and are the cabinets will be painted a creamy white. I can't figure out what to put on this hearth. The mantle is some sort of concrete crafted to look like stone. I'd rather scrap the entire fireplace and start over but we need to move in very soon. We had considered reclaimed wood but it's a wood burning fireplace so that's not an option :( Any suggestions would be appreciated!! |

| We are putting in a soapstone hearth for our fireplace. Soapstone is supposed to great for that purpose, as it will absorb heat and slowly release it back after the heat source is gone. It is heat resistant, of course, isn't porous and we like the look. We got a remnant from a soapstone place and got it cut to size (59" x 16") for only $120. We also picked up some soapstone tiles to replace the existing tiles. |
