Lennox, Regency or Heat N Glo - want fireplace for asthetics

I am looking for a fireplace primarly for asthetics in the family room. We have a great new Trane furnace that heats the house well but we are looking for AMBIENCE that can only be gotten with a nice fireplace.
We are looking for something around 36" wide, direct vent, clean face, louverless that has great ambience but doesn't blast out the heat (we want to be able to keep the fireplace on for a while at night/holidays etc).
Our contractor referred us to Lennox Superior Model - direct vent louverless. Is that a good model?
Any other models that would be comparable? We don't want a heat machine just a really nice looking fireplace that that looks REAL and will have a custom mantle and a stone hearth and surround.
My mother in law has a Heat N Glo that she is very happy with.
Just trying to find out the difference between LEnnox, Heat N Glo and Regency. Which product would be BEST for our needs.
Thanks so much for your help!

Any direct vent will get pretty toasty. Buy something around 18K to 20K BTU's with higher efficiency and you should be able to use the fireplace for extended times. Lennox MLDVT40 is a nice clean face unit at a moderate price and is rated at 62% efficient
