My fireplace works fine when I use the little knob at the bottom. After the pilot is lit I have to use the knob on the unit to turn the flames on instead of the wall switch. When the flames are on high and I flip the switch, nothing happens. Does this just mean the wall switch is bad? If the switch was bad would the fireplace still work like it does? I thought that if it was the switch then only the pilot would stay on and not the flames. Not sure if it makes sense but I have a "Heatilator EC36" Its a woodburining and gas burning unit but currently I am using it as a gas unit. We moved in the house 2 years ago and its always been this way. Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

take the wall switch off, should be low voltage millivolt wire, clip the xposed ends strip fresh ends and re attach, flip the switch and once the pilot is lit and the gas valve in the on position. This with work 99% of the time. You also may want to see if where the wall switch wires are attached to the gas valve are loose, melted, or missing. If all is done and all appears ok it should work, if not its probable the switch itself should be replace at the wall
