 o
screaching door

The hinges on the door on our Quadrafire wood stove makes a loud screeching noise when we open and close it to put wood in. It's not a problem in the daytime but at night it wakes my wife up which creates much discontent in the household. We heat almost entirely with wood because I am a cheapskate and we do like all the heat it puts out. I tried graphite on the hinges but it only seems to last a few days. I don't want to use anything petroleum based because the hinges get too hot and it would just burn up and put fumes in the house. Any other ideas out there.

RE: screaching door

If the door is removable, I'd take it off and polish the hinge pins with emery cloth or steel wool. The inside of the hinge could probably be cleaned with a small wooden dowel or qtip wrapped with steel wool.
