Fuego IV fireplaceï¿½cover vents?

Hello Everyone,

I have a Fuego IV zero clearance fireplace in my living room, house built in 1978. We use our fireplace every night in the cold months. It has 2 very ugly vents (6 x 12") which I believe provide passive heat (no fans that I am aware of). We are looking to redo the facade of the fireplaceÃ¢ÂÂ¦bring down the mantel over the vents as the mantel is too high for the room and the vents as I mentioned are ugly. Does anyone know if it is possible to simply cover the vents or will there be dangerous heat buildup? Has anyone done this before? We will most likely contract a professional but I was wondering if there was personal experience out there. Thanks, much appreciated, Fiona

We also have a similar situation, we are remodeling our home, about 4 feet above the Fuego IV insert there are 2 vents, that are attached to some vent pipes that come off of the fireplace insert (passive circulation or air). We would like to close these off at the insert box and remove the vents. Is this possible?
