I have an Applachian insert that I have had for 3 seasons. This year I have had problems with it being smokey. I have checked the flu to ensure it is open and the chimney is not obstructed, cleaned it out, tried with air vents open & closed, open & closed the refractor plate and continue to have a smokey house. I have not had this problem any of the previous seasons. Any thoughts on what to try.

Go to www.hearth.com and ask over there. There are experts there that can and will solve this problem.

There is another forum where you can discuss these issues. www.hearthtalk.com When was the last time you totally cleaned out your stove? It could be fly ash impeding the air flow and not your chimney. If you are not getting proper air in then you do not have enough to promote proper draft
